The Difference Between Dissociation and Disassociation, Objectivity and Subjectivity: Four Words That Shape How We Understand Reality

Language matters. Sometimes two words differ by only a few letters yet describe entirely different experiences. Other times, we use terms interchangeably until their true meanings become blurred. Four such words are dissociation, disassociation, objective, and subjective. Understanding the distinctions between them not only improves communication, but also changes how we think about ourselves and the world around us.

I write on this specifically just because I have noticed a few people in life recently mixing them up and I do like to write about my own experiences and what propels me into rumination.

Dissociation: When the Mind Disconnects

Dissociation is a psychological phenomenon in which aspects of our normal experience (thoughts, emotions, memories, identity, or perception) temporarily become disconnected from one another.
