Emotional Residue
Some emotions don’t leave when the moment ends.
They settle down.
They move out of the center of your attention.
But unfortunately, they don’t always disappear.
I’ve been thinking about the way feelings linger in the non-obvious ways.
A tone in the background.
A slight shift in how you interpret things.
A familiar sensation that returns without a clear reason why.
From a neurological perspective, this makes sense. Emotions aren’t isolated events. They’re patterns. When something meaningful happens—especially something intense—the brain encodes not just the memory, but the emotional context around it. The amygdala plays a role in tagging experiences with emotional significance, while the hippocampus helps store the details.
